Travel handmade

Before I left for my Hong Kong vacation I had to take a pic of all my handmade travel bags.
Jeni posted sth. similar before she went to sewing summit and I really liked seeing all the handmade goodies all together.

Before I took the pic I didn't realize that I have so many handmade bags and other goods in my suitcase.

I made some of these things last minute. Just a few hours before I left.
Like the case for my sony tablet which I bought as a early birthday gift (I will turn 30 in january) for myself.
Of course I needed a case to bring the tablet safe to Hong Kong and all the way back to germany.

I wanted to use lots of tiny scraps which I got from lovely sewing friends this year. I had so much fun going through all these treasures and putting them together.

For the background fabric I used my cute text print which I got from Ayumi earlier this year.
I saved the fabric for a special craft and I couldn't find a better project to see the lovely print every day.

I used Faith ipad tutorial for the bag. I just had to change the measurements a bit and it fits like a glove.
I hand quilted around the colourfull squares on both sides and I hand quilted circles all over the entire bag.
Sadly it's hard to be seen on the text fabric.

I'm definetly making another project with using those tiny squares. It's the best way to use up all the tiny left over fabrics.

Since I wasn't sure if I'm allowed to bring a needle (and my hexagon kit) on the plane (which was no problem at the end) I had to make a super quick bag for my crochet stuff.

I used Jeni's awesome drawstring tutorial. I just had to change the measurements to make it small enough to fit in my handbag.

I have to admit that I didn't make any crafty projects during the flight. I just slept (because I was lucky enough to have 2 seats on both flights) or watched some movies.

Some of my handmade travel goodies are already given away to my sisters.
The handbag turned out to be to small for me. I didn't use the bag at all so I gave it to my older sister.
The handmade wallet is now at my sis home because I bought myself a new wallet in Hong Kong.

Hexagon travel kit

10 hours on the plane...what would you do ??
Sleeping, eating, reading, watching movies or just starring at the people next to you ?!
In my case I'm the movie watching kind of girl.
I traveled with finnair for most of my long flights and I always liked their movie selection.
They had the typical blockboster but also some nonfamous (at least for me) movies from different countries.
I never had any problems to fill my flight with tons of movies.
Due to a strike from finnair last year I had to fly with lufthansa.
I was really dissapointed when I saw there movie selection. They had only a few blockbuster which I already watched at home.
Since I'm flying with lufthansa this year again I will prepared to have nothing to watch. Since I won't feel comfortable starring at the people next to me or eating tons of food (I'm tall so my body and stomach is already completly crushed already due to the small seats which means I have no place  for lots of food ) I had to look for sth. to entertain me.
Making Hexagons entertained me a lot in the past months so why not making hexagons durring the flight ?!
Normally I would travel like this with my hexagon sewing stuff but for a long flight I really needed something more tidy.
So I jumped on bandwaggon and drafted a little pattern for a hexagon sewing kit kind of bag.
( I can make a tutorial when I'm back if anyone is interesseted)

I wanted to use some scraps so I tryed the bow tie pattern.

I started to quilt the white pieces by hand but found out that the pattern will loose all the prettiness once you fold it.
So I stoped on the project and put it aside for a fresh start.
This time I kept it really simple.
Just some 1 inch colorfull squares framed in black Kona and with a letter printed fabric background.

I hand quilted around the square with embroidery thread and I hand quilted some circles all over the the whole piece.

The lining really caused my headaches.
I had to decide how many pockets or other stuff need to be added.

I decided for 4 pocket to hold the precut fabrics and one pocket for the templates.
Sadly I made a little mistake with the measurements so one of the pocket on the far right is a little bit to small to hold my 2,5 inch fabric precuts.

I added a little piece of felt for the needles.
I just need one needle to sew the hexagons but the pins looked so nice so I added these as well.
BTW ...does anyone know if I'm allowed to bring needles on the plane ? Is it allowed ???

I added a little string made from some kona solid to hold my thread. You can easily change the thread color because you can open and close it with a snap fastener.

The little scissor is my fave item.
I bought in in the museum of history in Hong Kong last year.
I was looking for some scissores because I was working on a travel book durring the trip and needed something to cut all the stuff I wanted to glue in the book.

I hope this little sewing kit will keep my busy durring the flight and with some luck I will be able to finish some hexagons flowers for my second hexagon quilt.

Hong Kong vacation 2010

I always wanted to sort and post my pictures from my Hong & Singapore trip last year.
But for the first weeks I wasn't able to put my hands on the pics and later I comnpletly forgot.
Since I'm going to Hong Kong again this year it's time to show some of the photos.

But I really want to share my experiences and adventures.
I met lots of lovely people while I was in Hong Kong & Singapore. All of them took there time to show me around or entertain me every day.

It really makes traveling alone easier when you have friends waiting for you on the other side of the world.

I started my vacation on the 21. november 2011. I took the plane in Berlin via Helsinki till Hong Kong.

I arrived on 22. november around 3 pm in Hong Kong where Wendy picked me up.

I spent some awesome days in Hong untill Wendy and I took the flight to Singapore where *S was waiting for us. But I will tell more about it later.

You will be able to see most of the vacation pics on my flickr travel set .
